I believe audio plays a huge role in the movie and television industry. The music or background sounds is used to tell you how to feel about a scene. Every time I watch a romantic or drama filled love story I end up crying… this is mainly due to the sad music that plays in the background when a tragedy strikes because it is telling you that this is the part you are suppose to be sad at.. or if you are like me… cry at. This is the same when watching horror movies, when the creepy man jumps out we don’t just jump or scream due to his action but the loud background sound that plays at that exact moment. The audio in movies bring emotion and more description to a scene in a movie… keeping the audience engaged and attached to what is going on.
The last scene of the movie, The Notebook, honestly gets me crying every time. The music in the background is soft and smooth allowing you to feel calm but able to feel your emotions and become more engaged in the scene itself. (almost started crying watching it)
YAYAYA week 3 finally complete!! I really liked going into the photography side of storytelling… After reading, Becoming a Better Photographer, I am more aware of how much a photo can show a viewer. I also learned how to change my perspective on taking pictures and going into more depth/ adding more details from either changing the angle or lighting in a photo.
I had a lot of fun with doing these photography based visual assignments this week. It did take a little longer than usual to create these photos/ writing stories about photos but all and all I really enjoyed it.
I have attached the three daily creates below, I always have fun doing these and a lot of people had very cool responses this week.
20 Minute Photoblitz…
This assignment was actually a lot more fun than I thought it was going to be. I ran around the ITCC trying the find all of these objects and was fun/interesting activity.
…. This week I found my passion for photography again… I really enjoyed learning new perspectives on photography and how to become a better photographer. These assignments were a lot of fun and it was interesting to see everyones stories when being asked what their photography background is….. can’t wait for next weeks assignment!!!!!
…. And start the timer!! (1:41)

…photo of the common thing
….Close up photo of an ear
I had a lot of fun doing this photoblizter project!!
My 3rd and final Visual Assignment for this week is worth 3 stars, and I was to create a collage like the one used in the title for the show, The Brady Bunch. For my collage I asked my fellow teammates to send me selfies of them looking different directions as seen in The Brady Bunch collage. I chose my teammates for this project because we all are kinda of like The Brady Bunch, we are with one another almost everyday, have complete different personalities, and act life we are a family. So basically you can say……. We’re the real life Brady Bunch!!!
Think you can guess what this is?!?!
For this 4 start assignment, I took a close up picture of something I hope all of you guys are able to figure out!! Please leave comments of your guesses!!!
…. After a tough 5 years of ups and downs Brittany and Todd make it to the night before their wedding. They have it all planned to be held in Hawaii with their closest family and friends. The anticipation of getting married has been killing them and all the jitters and cold feet are beginning to set in…. They both try to stay away from each other on their wedding night but they needed to see each other. There was just something they both felt at the same exact moment and once they snuck out of their hotel they walked to the beach and found one another waiting… As they walked along the beach the sun began to set and Todd pulled Brittany in close and said to her, “I have been waiting for this moment my whole life, you are my everything and I can’t wait until I get to spend the rest of my life with you.”
This visual assignment is worth 3 stars and was actually a lot of fun to take a photo and write a story about it… I believe this shows how much a picture can get us to think and create new ideas.
I love taking photos… If you follow any of my social media accounts you would know how much pictures I post on a daily basis. Every time my friends and myself go out to do anything there is always either a group photo being taken, a selfie, and always a snapchat. While I am on vacation, I love to take pictures of the sunrise, beach, and all the cool/fun things we do. To be honest, my intention when going about taking a photo is to post this photo on my social media. This usually means I go about it knowing people will see it later, if its a selfie or group photo it will probably end up on instagram or facebook. If its a scenic or photo of what I am currently doing it goes on my snapchat.
Before I had a lot of social media accounts, I loved taking pictures just for fun. My mom bought me a really nice cannon camera for christmas and I began taking photos of everything that was in my sight. I fell in love with the power of being able to capture a moment or sight, and have it in the palm of my hand forever. My love for taking photos for just myself quickly diminished once I grew to my obsession with social media.
After reading those three articles, I have learned plenty of new tactics and a whole new approach when going about taking a photo. The ones that stuck with me were when going about taking a photo I will try to tell or promote a question of a story from the photo. Also I will try to use different angles and capture more of the background of photos to tell a deeper story. All and all I have learned that a photo is so much more than something to just post online, but a way of telling stories.
Becoming Better Photographers
- Selection- The photographer showed how picky and selective he was when taking this photo based on the timing of the sunset and glare it gave to the image.
- Contrast- There are many colors in this photo, mostly coming from the sunset shinning down, showing the authors patience.
- Perspective- This point of view of the photo shows the sunrising and a early morning feeling.
- Depth- As you can see the photographer used a 2d image lens.
- Balance- The photographer expresses and captures the early morning feeling and sunrise in this beautiful photo.
- Moment- The author captured a great moment and anticipated the sunrise.
- Lighting- The light in this photo expresses and brightens all the other colors captured.
- Foreground/background- This photo is very open and is not clustered but gives a lot of depth into the background almost creating another image.
This week was filled with a lot of readings but allowed me to, yet again, see a new light in the world of digital storytelling. I had no idea how much of an impact Web 2.0 had on story telling. Web 2.0 changed from static web pages to user friendly content and has eventually lead to the impact of social media. I found the change to be huge for the world itself because where would we be today without it.
“A logic named Joe”
This article actually was very creepy to read because all the points and predictions the author had about todays world of technology is true. He states that we will all have some sort of device in our homes and it will over take our lives. Overall saying that without technology or the web today… todays people will not know how to go one.
The site on ‘How to write up assignments’ was very helpful for me this week when going about these assignments. It helped me lay a format to what I wanted to say but also giving more personal detail and creativity.
I really like doing these Daily Creates… even thou we only have to do three a week it was very fun activity and helped show my creative side.
These were a little tricky for me to do… and probably took most of my time doing this week. I think I thought to hard about how to do them but once I realized what I wanted to say it was easy for me to finish and create a story with them.
Another great week of Digital Storytelling and can’t wait for next week assignments!!!
One of my favorite shows of all time is Gilmore Girls… I was obsessed with this show from the first episode and have re-watched the whole series about 3 times now…. if you can’t tell I’m obsessed. For those of you who don’t know what Gilmore Girls is… we can’t be friends… but this mother and daughter who have a very close relationship almost like they are best friends and all the drama they go to together but always knowing they have each other to turn to. I was really attracted to this show because of that mother-daughter, best friend relationship because I see that in my relationship with my mother. My mom is my best friend… I tell her everything and when I am at my worst I just know that she will always be there to pick me back up. If you can’t tell from the picture itself …. I love my mom and so glad I can call her my best friend.
You know when there’s that one boy that just won’t quick trying to make you go out with him…. yeah… well this is what Ashley felt everyday of highschool… Ashely is a senior at James Monroe Highschool in a small town right outside Dallas, Tx. Ever since the freshmen year this one boy named Tyler James has been in love with her. Tyler and Ashley used to be close friends and did everything together until one day Tyler asked Ashley to be his girlfriend and she just wasn’t ready to be in a relationship… this broke his heart. After she said no, Tyler ignored and pretended to never know who Ashley even was… until the end of sophomore year where his anger/sadness turned into obsession… He began to tell people they were dating and would follow Ashley around like they were attached at the hip.. Ashley was a nice girl and didn’t want to hurt Tyler because she knew how fragile he was.. She let the rumors go and just tried to ignore Tyler… Senior year came along and she just needed a break.. One morning before the first bell Ashley was about to walk into class where she saw a huge crowd of people holding up balloons that said, “Ashley will you be my girlfriend?” Ashley began to boil in fury… she didn’t know what this feeling was but it was consuming her whole body.. and without even knowing what she was saying she yelled out.. “AS IF!!!!” in front of the whole school… Everyone went silent.. and Tyler dropped the flowers he had for her and walked away… From that point on Ashley hadn’t seen or heard from Tyler and hopefully never will…
For my second Assignment Bank assessment I chose D6106 Reacts .. worth 4 starts. I had a lot of fun writing this story… once I began typing my fingers just wouldn’t stop. I love the movie ‘Clueless’ and at first I wasn’t planning on going this route in my story but my imagination just took me this way and I had a lot of fun doing it.
